HEAD AND BODY

Start crocheting from the head. Stuʺ as you go.

Make sure the snail stays in a ˁat shape when you stuʺ it.

Chain 32 in yellow Starting in the second ch from the hook

Rnd 1: inc, 29 sc, 2 inc in the last chain,

(do not turn your work, crochet on the other side of the chain)

29 sc, inc (66 st)

Mark the last stitch with a stitch marker, then crochet in a spiral.

Rnd 2: 2 inc, 29 sc, 4 inc, 29 sc, 2 inc (74 st)

Fasten oʺ, cut and hide the yarn end.

Now we need to use markers to mark where the snail’s tentacles

(eye stalks) will be and where the body will be.

Count back 10 stitches from where you’ve just ʾnished,

and mark the 11th stitch. Then, skip another 15 stitches

and mark the 16th stitch. Skip another 20 stitches

and mark the 21st stitch, and lastly, skip another 15 stitches

and mark the 16th stitch. You should end up with 4 markers in total

with 2 ˁat sides of 15 stitches to make the body, and the two curved

sides of the work with 22 stitches to make the eye stalks

Start crocheting the body.

Join the yellow yarn to the middle stitch of one of your marked 15 stitch

sides, and continue to crochet in a spiral using only the marked sides

that have 15 stitches each. You will skip the two marked areas

of 22 stitches. By working in a spiral you will join both sides

of 15 together to form the body. The two sides of the work

with 22 stitches will be with 22 stitches will be worked in later to form the eye stalks.

Use the pictures below as a guide.

Rnd 3: sc in all 30 st

After completing round 8, i would suggest you sew up the eye stalks

Insert the wire to ʾt right through, from the edge of one eye stalk

to the other. Make a loop on each end of the wire, so that it is safe and

the tip will not ʾt through the toy

(if you don’t want to use wire you can alternatively stuʺ the stalks ʾrmly).

Use a yellow yarn and thread to sew up the eye stalks.

You need to sew 10 stitches together on each eye stalk.

Leave a long tail to sew the eyes.

We continue crocheting the body.
