As a guidance I have a YouTube video showing how to make up a rabbit similar
to this (see end of pattern) – also refer to the photos on following pages 14 & 15.
TO MAKE UP HEAD
- I found it easiest to press the knitting first – but take care if you do and read
the yarn maufacturer’s guidance about pressing. - WS facing, fold ear in half along its length and join the very bottom – about
6mm/ .25in up from the base of the ear – leaving the rest of the ear open.
Then mattress join the few rows from the front of head to the back, from base
of ear to where the cast off edge at head back meets the head back marker. - Join nose – RS facing, fold the cast on edge at the nose in half and back stitch
to join – but leave about 5mm (about 3 stitches) un-sewn at the top/ bend so that
when the nose is turned out it creates a tiny nose. - To join the sides of the head, working one side at a time, match the two neck
markers and mattress join from marker to marker.
TO JOIN FRONT TO BACK - Working on just one side for the moment, begin at the tail end and ease the
row ends from front and back together all the way up to where the seam starts
at the side of the neck – you may wish to pin in place before sewing. - Ease the chin row ends to fit around the nose – the fastened off point at the
chin (see Row 15*) should join with the centre of the nose. Mattress sew all seams - Work forelegs as foll: – before finishing sewing the other side seam.
Sew around the top of each forelegs at the side seam

TO FINISH THE FACE AND HEAD
- Stuff the head, making sure that the stuffing aids with the shaping of
the cheeks and nose. - To make the face squish up a little, bend a length of yarn in half and
pass the cut ends through a yarn sewing needle. - Pass the threaded needle through one side of the head – halfway
between the ears and chin – and out the other side of the head – about
one inch away – then back in to emerge back out where you started – pull
up to squish the face and secure the thread. - Insert the eyes into the dents and fasten securely.
- Using a length of brown yarn, embroider straight lines for the nose
and the mouth over the mouth shaping as follows:
… secure thread and bring
out at A – in at B – out at C,
working over the ‘a to b’ stitch
so creating the ‘V’. Work a
stitch down to D, out at E and
across to F, working under the
vertical line created from ‘c to
d’. Secure the yarn.

- To complete the head shaping – pinch the head between the ears so
bringing the backs of the ears together and work a few stitches along the
crease that you’ve created to hold it in place.
