PATTERN TERMINOLOGY:
This pattern is written using US terminology.
FINISHED SIZE:
Approximately 26cm in height when using the recommended materials & hook size.
NOTES:
This pattern includes instructions on how to make both the doll and baby wolf.
Work in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated in the pattern.
The doll is worked from the feet upwards.
No wire frame is required for this doll.
I have used the ‘x’ stitch to create my doll and baby wolf (yarn under technique).
Using different materials and hook size to what is recommended may alter the final appearance of your doll and baby wolf. For example, a smaller hook and lighter weight yarn will produce a smaller doll and baby wolf.
If a different size hook and yarn is used, consider adjusting the size of the safety eyes accordingly.
To make an invisible st, pull the yarn end through the last st and thread it onto a tapestry needle. Skip one st and guide the yarn under both loops of the next st, going from the outside to the inside of your work. Insert the needle back into the top of the sc (or st) in which you started. This completes your invisible st.

F/O and weave the yarn tail through each FLO of the last round. Gently pull the tail to close the opening and weave it in.
FACIAL DETAILS:

Eyes: With a length of white yarn, make the whites of the eyes from the outer top corner to the inner bottom corner. Repeat for the 2nd eye, secure and weave in the tail.

With a length of black embroidery thread, make the black eyeline above the eye (I made the st twice so this part is thicker than the eyelash). Use the same thread to make the eyelash.

Make the eyelash starting one st above the end of the eyeline and make a V st as shown in Pic. 28. Repeat for the 2nd eye. You can skip this step if you prefer your doll to not have lashes. Continue the thread to make the eyebrows.

Make the eyebrow 2/3 rounds above the eye, 3 sts wide and at a slight angle.
Repeat for the 2nd eye. Secure the tail and weave it in.
NOSE & ARM ASSEMBLY:

Nose: Mark out the position of the nose centrally between the eyes, 3 sts wide between rnds 66/67.

Using powder yarn, make a double whip stitch making sure you keep the tension enough to pass your tapestry needle under the stitch.

Take the yarn under the double whip stitch and wrap it around until the whip stitches are no longer visible.

Take the yarn back into the head at the end of the nose, secure and weave in the tail. Add a little blush for cheeks if preferred.

Arms: Mark out the position of the arms between rnds 54/55 of the body, 10 sts apart at the front, counting in rnd 54.

Attach the arms on each side of the body, secure the tail and weave it in.
HAIR:
The hair is made up of strands worked into a cap and comprises of 3 layers. Use light brown yarn.
Rnd 1: 6 sc into a mr (6)
Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)
Rnd 3: FLO 1 sc, inc x 6 (18)
Rnd 4: 1 sc, inc, 2 sc, inc x 5, 1 sc (24)
Rnd 5: 3 sc, inc x 6 (30)
Rnd 6: FLO 2 sc, inc, 4 sc, inc x 5, 2 sc (36)
Now we will make the strands over 3 layers.
Layer 1
Continue from rnd 6 of the cap.
Strands 1 – 12 (12 strands): Ch 20, start in the 3rd ch from the hook (Pic.38), 18 hdc, skip one st, sl st into the next st.
Strands 13 – 18 (6 strands): Ch 10, start in the 3rd ch from the hook, 8 hdc, skip one st, sl st into the next st.
Layer 2
Ch 1 and turn your work over so the BLO of rnds 2 & 5 are facing you, remove your hook and insert the hook under the last BLO of rnd 5 and pick up the loop again and pull it through the BLO (Pic. 40). You will now work in the opposite direction to layer 1.
Strands 1 – 5 (5 strands): Ch 11, start in the 3rd ch from the hook, 9 hdc, skip one st, sl st into the next BLO st.
Strands 6 – 15 (10 strands): Ch 22, start in the 3rd ch from the hook, 20 hdc, skip one st, sl st into the next BLO st.
To finish, sl st into the BLO you started in, F/O and take the yarn tail into the inside of the work and weave it in.

Layer 3
Use light brown yarn. Insert your hook under the last BLO of rnd 2 and pull up a loop. Secure the starting tail (Pic. 42).
Work in the same direction as layer 2. Do not skip a st between each strand.
Strands 1 – 3 (3 strands): Ch 13, start in the 3rd ch from the hook, 11 hdc, sl st into the next BLO st.
Strands 4 – 12 (9 strands): Ch 25, start in 3rd ch from the hook, 23 hdc, sl st into the next BLO st.
To finish, sl st into the first BLO you started in, F/O and leave a long enough tail to attach the cap and all hair strands.

ATTACHING THE HAIR:
Place the centre of the cap on top of the head, wrong side up, aligning it with the top centre of the head and pin it in place. Tie all strands of layer’s 2 & 3 loosely together to keep them out of the way whilst attaching layer 1.
Layer 1
Pin strands 1 & 12 first, approximately 4 sts back from the edge of each eye (Pic. 45).
Pin strands 13 – 18 equally across the front of the head, the edge of the strands should sit aligned one rnd above the eyebrows (Pic. 46).
Pin the remaining strands (2 – 11) equally around the back of the head. The edge of each strand should meet at the bottom and sit aligned (Pic. 47).
Using the yarn tail, sew all the strands in place.

Before pinning layer 2 in place, use the tail to attach the cap to the head (Pic. 48).
Layer 2
Pin strands 1 – 5 in between the gaps made by strands 13 – 18 of layer 1 (Pic. 49).
Pin strands 6 – 15 equally around the back of the head, going over any gaps made from layer 1 (Pic. 50). Leave the ends unsewn so they curl up slightly (Pic. 51).
Using the yarn tail, sew all the strands in place.
Layer 3
Pin strands 1 – 3 equally over the previous strands, making sure there are no visible gaps between the strands (Pic. 52).
Pin strands 4 – 12 equally around the back of the head, making sure all gaps are covered.
Using the yarn tail, sew all the strands in place.
Secure the yarn tail and weave it in.

DRESS:
The dress is worked in rows, start with patina yarn.
Ch 32, start in the 7th ch from the hook (to create button loop).

Row 21: 21 sc, inc x 3, ch 1, turn (69)

F/O and leave a long tail for closing the dress.

Dress Edge:
Using white yarn, pull up a loop in the last BLO of row 22 and ch 2 (counts as one hdc). Secure the starting tail. Make 2 hdc in the same st.
Make 3 hdc into each BLO of row 22 (207).
F/O and leave a long tail to join the frill edge later

Dress decoration & finishing:
Now we will make the decoration on the front of the dress using a long length of white yarn for each row. When taking the yarn tail from one V st to the next on the inside of the dress, weave the yarn through the back of the stitches to keep it neat.
Each V st is one st high and one st wide.
Row 1 (worked in row 7 of the dress): Make 5 V sts, 8 sts apart with the 3rd st sitting centrally on the dress (Pic. 59).

Using the patina tail, join the dress up to row 12 only. Secure and weave in the tail (Pic. 64).

We will now pause to sew the hood together, hold the last st with a st marker.

Turn your work over and fold it in half so the straps meet and the inside of your work is facing you. Using the starting tail, sew the open seam together (Pic. 71).
Secure the tail and weave it in. Turn the hood the right way round so the seam is on the inside (Pic. 72).
Go back to the marked st at the end of the 2nd strap. Turn the hood upside down with the back of the hood facing you.
We will now make the lower section of the cape.
