Let’s begin!

We will be working in the round which means we will not be joining with a ss at the
end of each round. Continue to work in a spiral. Use a stitch marker at the start of
each round, moving it as rounds are completed to help you keep count

Body

With your 3.5 hook and black yarn, make a magic circle. Work 6 sc into the
center and pull it tight.

Round 1: sc inc around. (12 sc)
Round 2: *sc, sc inc. repeat from * around. (18 sc)
Round 3: *2 sc, sc inc. repeat from * around. (24 sc)
Round 4: *3 sc, sc inc. repeat from * around. (30 sc)
Round 5: *4 sc, sc inc. repeat from * around. (36 sc)

Round 8: sc around. (42 sc)
Round 9: sc around. (42 sc)
Round 10: Working in BLO, sc around. (42 sc)
Round 11: sc around. (42 sc)
Round 12: *5 sc, sc2tog. Repeat from * around (36 sc)
Round 13: sc around. (36 sc)
Begin to stuff now and continue to do so while you work the next several rounds. You
want it to come right up to the edge so when you sew on the head it sits nice and firm.
Do not overstuff the bottom, you want it to keep a flat shape when sitting.
Round 14: *4 sc, sc2tog. Repeat from * around (30 sc)
Round 15: sc around. (30 sc)
Round 16: *3 sc, sc2tog. Repeat from * around (24 sc)
Round 17: sc around. (24 sc)

Round 19: *2 sc, sc2tog. Repeat from * around (18 sc)
Round 20: sc around. (18 sc)
Round 21: sc around. (18 sc)
Work a ss in the next st, fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Hood

With your 3.5 hook and main color yarn, make a magic circle. Work 6 sc into
the center and pull it tight.

Round 1: sc inc around. (12 sc)
Round 2: *sc, sc inc. repeat from * around. (18 sc)
Round 3: *2 sc, sc inc. repeat from * around. (24 sc)
Round 4: *3 sc, sc inc. repeat from * around. (30 sc)
Round 5: *4 sc, sc inc. repeat from * around. (36 sc)
Round 6: *5 sc, sc inc. repeat from * around. (42 sc)
Rounds 7-11: sc around. (42 sc)
We are now going to start creating the point on the hood. Follow along slowly as to not
miss a stitch.
Round 12: 20 sc, hdc, hdc inc, dc inc, hdc inc, hdc, 17 sc. (45 total stitches)
Round 13: 20 sc, 3 hdc, dc inc, dc inc, 3 hdc, 17 sc. (47 total stitches)
Round 14: 20 sc, 3 hdc, dc, dc inc, dc inc, dc, 3 hdc, 17 sc. (49 total stitches)
We will now be decreasing our point stitches, the hood will naturally start to fold, this
is what we want to happen.
Round 15: 20 sc, 3 hdc, dc, dc2tog, dc2tog, dc, 3 hdc, 17 sc. (47 total stitches)
Round 16: 20 sc, 3 hdc, dc2tog, dc2tog, 3 hdc, 17 sc. (45 total stitches)
Round 17: 20 sc, hdc, hdc2tog, dc2tog, hdc2tog, hdc, 17 sc. (42 total stitches)
Rounds 18-23: sc around. (42 sc)
Round 24: *5 sc, sc2tog. Repeat from * around. (36 sc)
Round 25: sc around. (36 sc)
Round 26: *4 sc, sc2tog. Repeat from * around. (30 sc)
Rounds 27-28: sc around. (30 sc)
Round 29: *3 sc, sc2tog. Repeat from * around (24 sc)
Rounds 30-31: sc around. (24 sc)
The next few rows we will be creating the wavy effect at the end of the hood. Follow
along slowly stitch by stitch.
Round 32: 3 sc, sc2tog, 10 sc, sc inc, 8 sc. (24 sc)
Round 33: 3 sc, sc2tog, 10 sc, sc inc, 8 sc. (24 sc)
To help the end of the hood hold its shape, you can lightly stuff it with fiberfill. Do not
pack too much in as it will push the inside of the hood out creating a bubble and we
want that to stay hollow looking.
Round 34: *2 sc, sc2tog. Repeat from * around (18 sc)
Round 35: sc around. (18 sc)
Round 36: *sc, sc2tog. Repeat from * around. (12sc)
Round 37: sc around. (12 sc)
Round 38: 2 sc, sc inc, 4 sc, sc2tog, 3 sc (12 sc)
Round 39: 2 sc, sc inc, 4 sc, sc2tog, 3 sc (12 sc)
Round 40: sc around. (12 sc)
Round 41: sc2tog around. (6 sc)
Round 42: sc around. (6 sc)
Work a ss in the next st, fasten off, weaving tail into hood to hide it.

I have included some in progress photos of the hood below for reference

Hood at the end of round 11
If you didn’t fold the hood as you went, it will
look like this. You can grab the point of the
hood from inside and then roll down the top
until the edges meet.

.

Below is how the hood should look after round 19.

Going back to the body, we are going to add onto the bottom of the gown.
Take the body and flip it upside down and then rotate it so the neck is facing
you. We are going to be working into the front loops left over from round 10.
Make a slip knot and attach to hook and insert into the first loop.
Round 1: * 6 sc, inc. Repeat from * around. (48 sc)
Rounds 2-4: sc around. (48 sc)
Round 5: sc inc around. (96 sc)
Work a ss in the next st, tie off and weave in tail.

Sleeves (make 2)

With 3.5 hook and black yarn, make a magic circle. Work 6 sc into the circle
and pull it tight.
Rounds 1-2: sc around. (6 sc)
Round 3: *sc, sc inc. Repeat from * around. (9 sc)
Round 4: sc around. (9 sc)
Round 5: *2 sc, sc inc. Repeat from * around. (12 sc)
Rounds 6-9: sc around. (12 sc)
Round 10: *sc, sc inc. Repeat from * around. (18 sc)
Round 11: Working in the FLO, sc around. (18 sc)
ss in the next st, fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
I worked the tail back up through the inside of the sleeves to the top in order to use it to
sew them onto the body. Just don’t pull on it too tight as it will pull the bottoms of the
sleeves up with it! You will flatten the top of the sleeves to make it easier to sew on.
You can now sew the hood onto the body, position it so the hood is pointing slightly
down. Then sew the sleeves onto either side of the body. You want to sew one on so that
it is pointing out rather than down, this is the one that will hold the scythe.

Scythe

With your 3.0 hook and brown yarn, make a magic circle. Work 6 sc into the
center and pull it tight.
Rounds 1-20: sc around. (6 sc)
ss in the next st, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
With your 3.0 hook and grey yarn, ch 13. ss into the 2nd ch from hook and
each ch across. (12 ss)
Ch 1 and turn. Working in the top loops (see photo below) *sc, sc inc x 3. 5
sc, ss in the last st then work a ss into the top loop. Ch 2, ss in the 2nd ch from
hook then rotate your work so that you are working back along the bottom
side, ss in BLO each st across.
Sew the two pieces together, then on the sleeve that is extended, sew the
scythe on near the bottom of the sleeve. You can also choose to use a pipe
cleaner in the scythe to give it some extra stability

Enjoy your finished Lil’ Grim!
