Tipp:

If you want to use safety eyes make sure to place them before it´s too tight. I recommend to place them between rounds 14 and 15 with 20 stitches distance between them.

Neck and Body

(colour A)

Neck and body are crocheted in one

piece.

Neck:

Start with a row of chains that will be closed to a ring. Leave a log tail before starting the chains, because you need it later to sew the head on the neck

1: 20 ch, slst in 1st ch to gain a ring.

2-4: 20 sc (20) (3 rnds)

Do not cut the yarn, continue with the body.

Body:

The following 19 ch will be the back of the deer.

1: 19 ch, turn (19)

2: start in 2nd ch from the hook:  inc, 17 sc in the chains, 20 sc around the neck, 18 sc in the other side oft he chains (57)

3: (inc) x2, 54 sc, inc (60)

4: (sc, inc) x2, 25 sc, inc, 3 sc, inc, 25 sc, inc (65)

5: (2 sc, inc) x2, 58 sc, inc (68)

6: (3 sc, inc) 2, 25 sc, inc, 5 sc, inc, 27 sc, inc (73)

9-19: 80 sc (80) (11 rnds)

20: (5 sc, dec) x2, 25 sc, dec 7 sc, dec, 28 sc, dec (75)

21: (4 sc, dec) x2, 63 sc (73)

Legs (x4)

(start with color C )

1 : 6 sc in magic ring (6)

2 : (inc) x6 (12)

3 : (sc, inc) x6 (18)

4 : BLO (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)

5-8 : 24 sc (24) (4 rnds)

9 : Change to color B : BLO 24 sc (24)

10 : (2 sc, dec) x6 (18)

10-25: 18 sc (18)  (15 rnds)

26: (1 sc, dec) x6 (12)

Stuff the legs very firmly (so you have the chance that our fawn can sand all alone on ist legs), press ends together and close legs with 6 sc. make 3 more legs.

Belly

(start with color A)

1 : start with a row of chains: 22 ch

Start in 2nd ch from the hook : inc, 19 sc, 3 sc in next stitch,

continue on the other side of the chains: 20 sc (44)

2: (1 sc, inc) x2, 16 sc, (1 sc, inc) x3, 17 sc, inc (50)

3: (2 sc, inc) x2, 16 sc, (2 sc, inc) x3, 18 sc, inc (56)

4: (3 sc, inc) x2, 16 sc, (3 sc, inc) x3, 19 sc, inc (62)

5: (4 sc, inc) x2, 16 sc, (4 sc, inc) x3, 20 sc, inc (68)

6: (5 sc, inc) x2, 16 sc, (5 sc, inc) x3, 21 sc, inc (74)

Now you need to make the legs first before you can continue with the last round of the belly. The legs will be crocheted into this round.

You make 6 stitches into the legs AND into round 6 of the belly Change to color B

7: 8 sc, 6 sc in Leg 1 and in the next 6 st from round 6 (picture 1)

17 sc, 6 sc in Leg 2 and in the next 6 st from round 6 8 sc,

6 sc in Leg 3 and in the next 6 st from round 6

17 sc, 6 sc in Leg 4 and in the next 6 st from round 6 (74)

Use pins to fix the belly on the body! While sewing it together don´t forget to stuff the body firmly. After that make sure the neck is stuffed very firmly that’s important for the position of the head later.

You might have noticed that there is one more stitch on the body than on the belly, but that shouldn’´t be a problem when you sew the pieces together. You can sew one stitch from the body together with two stitches of the belly Cut yarn but leave a long tail for sewing the belly to the body later. (picture 2)

Tail

(1 in color A and 1 in color B)

Start with the creme colored one! (color A)

1 : 6 sc in magic ring (6)

2 : (inc) x6 (12)

3 : (sc, inc) x6 (18)

4 : (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)

cut yarn and sew in the ends.

Make a second one with the brown colored yarn.

BUT don´t cut yarn after round 4.

After round 4 you make one more round but now you work in both pieces. Lay the crème colored circle on top of your brown circle and continue, crocheting in both stitches:

5: (3 sc, inc) x6 (30)

leave a long tail of yarn to sew it on the body of the fawn. Before you sew the tail on the fawn press the circle together and sew 3-4 stitches together.

Ears (2x)

(color B)

1: 5 sc in magic ring (5)

2: 5 sc (5)

3: (inc) x5 (10)

4: 10 sc (10)

5: (1 sc, inc) x5 (15)

6: 15 sc (15)

7: (2 sc, inc) x5 (20)

8: 20 sc (20)

9: (3 sc, inc) x5 (25)

10-15: 25 sc (25)

Make a second one.

Leave a long tail for sewing. Press the ears together and sew both sides together as shown on the picture below. Sew ears on the head with 15 stitches between the ears.

I sewed them between round 25-30 of the head. I recommend to use pins to fix the ears on the head, and if you like the position you sew it on.

Eyes

(colour black)

Before you start with the eyes pin ears on the head and if you like their position sew them on the head.

Note:

Ears between round 25 and 30.

Embroider the eyes.

Go 8 rounds back and 2 stitches down.

And then 2 rounds back.

For the three lashes go 2 stitches down

 27 dc , 2 ch turn (27)

3: (1 dc, 1 front-Rlief-dc) x 13, dc, 2chain wenden (27)

4: (1 dc, 1 back- Relief-dc) x13, dc (27)

Cut yarn and sew in the ends, lay the scarf around the neck oft he fawn and sew it togehter you can use 1-2 buttons if you want to.

If it´s still too difficutl you can make the scarf

with usual double crochet stitches.

Neckband for Christmas Edition:

color D

1: 100 Ch , turn

2: start in third stitch from the hook : 98 hdc Slst, cut yarn and sew in the ends. Lay the band around the neck and close with a bow, if you want you can sew a bell on the front of the band.

Antlers

For one Antler you need to make to pieces and join them together, afterwards you repeat the following steps to make a second one.

If you want them to look a bit thinner you can use a smaller hooksize.

Don´t stuff them too much.

EXTRA TIPP:

If you want you can put some rouge on the cheeks of your fawn.

If you decide to make the version with the neckpiece. You can also embroider a letter on the neck piece for example if the fawn is a present to a child.

If you want you can use the french knot stitch to make some dots on your fawns forehead.
